Look for the hosting firms that provide you the best services and features at the best pricing. It’s not at all necessary that an expensive webhosting would provide you the best hosting service.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BEGINNERS:

1. If you are starting a website for any online marketing purpose, try to find niches (or products) that have minimum competition. Also do a proper keyword research using tools from Google, Digital Point Free Keyword research and Wordtracker free keyword research to find the keywords that you need to use in the domain name and throughout the website. You’d want to start that business that have a lot of people searching for those keywords but at the same time you have less competitive websites offering the same products. Also, if all this information is too much for you to digest – We have heard that Wealthy Affiliate is a good firm to start with as they provide you all the required guidance and training. But we have never tried the service ourselves, so do a good lot of research before opting for the mentioned firm.

2. As mentioned in the Disclaimer, this second point need not be the fact because no one clearly knows all the parameters that the search engines rate a website upon, but still it’s our strong belief and understanding so far that the Domain Name that you choose has a lot of advantage if you have the keywords in the “domain name” that you want people to search in the search engines to reach your website. We feel that Google gives a lot of weightage to the keywords in the Domain Name to find a website. Also if the Domain Names that you looking are already reserved by someone, then you can use hyphens in your domain name. Example: Suppose you want people to find your website using the keywords – “Best Swiss Car Showroom” (as mentioned before make sure that this keyword does not have much competition), then you’d want to register a domain name which says – “bestswisscarshowroom.com”. If that domain is already reserved by someone else then you can use hyphens, like – “best-swiss-car-showroom.com”. Using hyphens has two advantage – the first advantage is that your domain name is easy to read if it’s a long keyword and second is that we have heard (but not confirmed information) that using hyphens makes it probably even more competitive in Google search than not using any hyphens. For example, I maintain a website by the name Current Articles – the domain name is http://currentarticles.net. Even though I have not done any website promotions for the same, but still it is listed in the second page of Google when you search for “Current Articles” in Google. This way your website is ready to give a strong competition to your competitors for those chosen keywords (”Best Swiss Car Showroom” and “Current Articles”) just based upon your domain name that you selected – even without much website promotion efforts.

3. When I speak of website promotion, the primary thing that I am referring to is the number of one way links that your website has to your site from other websites. Example: When someone searches for the term – “Current Articles” in Google, then Google looks at my site and notices that it has the correct domain name, but then it looks for various other factors, like how many times the word “Current Articles” has appeared on my website, also it gives a huge importance to the fact that how many sites that listed my website link in their websites along with the anchor text (for more info on anchor text read this article till the last paragraph). Now if you are wondering how and why some website would link to your websites, then the reasons are primarily two – first is that your website a lot of good information that someone wants to list in their website; second is that you have probably paid for a linking service. Paid services primarily fall under two categories – you either create links in web directories OR you write articles with link to your website in those article and submit to an article distribution service (this is very effective if you have chosen the correct company and service). To the best of our understanding the Good paid linking services are in this order - Linkvana (king of all linking service but quite expensive), Unique Article Wizard (search for this in Google), My Article Network. There are automated link submission software in the market like “Fast Link Submitter”.

4. It’s important for your website to get a good Google Pagerank.  I leave this point for you to research in Wikipedia – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank (Primary thing here is to have your website in the good books of Google more than any search engine ).

Once your domain is created and the website is hosted, you need to build the website. You can use free tool like Microsoft expression web if you know HTML programming. Else you can use well renowned tools like Xsitepro (download link is in the next page) to build your website (no HTML programming knowledge required for the same). If you are looking at starting a blog, Wordpress is the recommended application software to build your blog website (it’s free to download and the download link is in the next page).

Once the website is created you need to use various SEO tools to ensure that your website is structured well for the search engines to index your website properly. Google Webmasters Tools is a good tool to start with.

Once you have ensured the above, you need to popularize or market the website. You start by submitting the URL of your website(s) with the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. You can also register your website with Alexa and Jayde (all the links in the next page).

Then you need to submit your website with various web directories to attract users and increase your website’s ranking with Google and other search engines. If possible, you can buy some software like AceBit’s Hello Engines professional (We got this license free along with one of the webhosting with 1AND1 Hosting). This software will do auto and manual submission of your website(s) to various internet web directories and search engines.

Other option to popularize your website is by advertising. Examples are Google Adwords or advertising with Yahoo and Bing. You can also opt for email marketing (some relevant links provided in the next page).

Advanced SEO strategies:

Ensure that your website has the proper keywords in place. Proper title, Meta tag, robots.txt and XML sitemap also plays an important role for some search engine rankings.

The key to a decent Google page rank is normally a good number of relevant one way links to your website from other websites (Around 1000+ links should be decent enough – but again if the links are from renowned and relevant websites, then a much lower number can also be termed as decent). Also be sure to have the anchor text in place when building the links to your website (else, though the search engine finds the link to your website, but it will have no clue as to which are the keyword(s) for which your website was given the link in the first place. Two examples of links with appropriate anchor text are as follows:

If you are looking at gaining a high Google page rank for your website and if you have the funds for marketing, you can also consider article marketing, submitting your website to Yahoo directory (Paid) and DMOZ (it’s free but takes time to be listed), blogging, forum posting etc.  There are many tools that help you in automating these steps but most of them are expensive. But yes some of these tools do work and help you get a decent Page rank!!!

A point to be noted is that if your website is new, sometimes Google sandbox the website for a while and during this period you might not see a good Page rank (or Zero Page rank) assigned to your website by Google (like this present website). This is normal and nothing to panic. You just need to patiently wait for 6-8 months till Google assigns your website the Page rank that it deserves. (Point to be noted – “Zero Page” rank is different from “No Page Rank”).
